The Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies consists of two teams, one for Islamic Studies and one for Arabic Studies. The latter – led by Prof. Dr. Andreas Lammer – has a particular focus on the history of knowledge and recently founded a new center devoted to the academic investigation of the life, thought, and influence of the Muslim philosopher, physician, and scientist Avicenna (Ibn Sina). This new "Avicenna Study Center" (ASC) aims to bring together students, doctoral researchers, early career scholars, and senior colleagues, and provides an active environment for innovative research.
As a postdoctoral research associate (f/m/x) at the ASC, you will be based in Bochum and work under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Andreas Lammer. Your tasks will cover three main aspects: (1) you will serve as a science manager of the ASC and, in collaboration with its director, organise its internal structure and events; (2) you will further your own career by publishing and presenting your own research; and (3) you will develop and write one funding proposal for a research project on Avicenna per year. In case one of these projects is funded, you have a chance to receive a three year research position as a fellow of the ASC, carrying out the project.
The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If the personal and collective agreement requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L.
