The research activity covers the following topics: - Development and design of innovative DC switchgear technologies and protection systems
- Modeling and simulation of the switching processes of DC hybrid switches
- Interaction of new DC switchgear technologies with innovative DC distribution network topologies
- Design of a transformation concept from AC to DC distribution networks from the perspective of switchgear
In an interdisciplinary team (ThEFI brings together 12 specialist areas from 4 faculties), novel methods in the above-mentioned subject area are to be developed and scientifically investigated. ThEFI offers the necessary laboratory infrastructure for this in its Technology Center.
Your tasks
The position includes the following responsibilities: - Modeling, simulation, and verification of the switching process sequence of the hybrid switch
- Design, construction, and experimental investigations of novel model switchgear arrangements, including smart functions
- Interdisciplinary collaboration on issues related to the overall project proposal (network topologies, operational management, grounding concepts, etc.)
- Evaluation and presentation of results and their scientific exploitation in reports, publications, lectures, and international conferences
Your profile
For being part of the selection process is needed: - Excellent degree in electrical engineering with a specialization in electrical energy and automation technology (degree: Dipl.-Ing. or M.Sc.) with a strong research focus) Alternatively, a very good degree in engineering, natural sciences, economics, or computer science (Master or Diploma
- Knowledge of how switching and protection devices work
Following competences are desirable: - In-depth knowledge of arc physics, surge protection, and power electronics
- Experience in modeling and simulating arc-affected electromechanical systems
- In-depth knowledge of COMSOL, ANSYS, and Matlab/Simulink
- Commitment, enthusiasm, ability to work independently, initiative, and teamwork skills
- Very good communication skills in German (if German is not your native language: level B2) and English (level C2)
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
