The Role
The Medical Manager manages a hybrid role as the Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL) for Austria and as Medical Advisor for Germany and Austria to support the implementation of key medical activities.
The candidate is based in Austria and reports to the Head of Medical Affairs Germany and Austria.
Key Responsibilities
External Engagement & Insights (50% field-based, covering all of Austria)
- Enhance Ascendis Pharma’s visibility in the endocrinology community, promoting the transformative potential of TransCon technology.
- Develop and execute a Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement plan for Austria.
- Engage with healthcare providers, researchers, and patient advocates to understand and address their scientific and clinical needs.
- Maintain high level of medical expertise to support the portfolio/pipeline and relevant disease states (e.g., bone and growth).
- Deliver scientific presentations to internal and external audiences and provide support at medical congresses and professional meetings.
- Capture and share external insights on disease states, Ascendis´ pipeline, and competitors with internal stakeholders.
- Build strong relationship with local sales colleague by providing medical expertise and support as needed.
- Collaborate with Internal Medical Affairs colleagues to support regional deliverables (e.g., scientific support, internal/external presentations).
- Support clinical trial operations by engaging with clinical trial investigators and sites.
- Ensure understanding of and maintain compliance with department and corporate policies and procedures.
Strategic and Operational Management (50% remote for Germany and Austria)
- Plan and implement local Medical Affairs activities under agreed timelines and budget.
- Execute local non-promotional material development and review processes through scientific guidance and collaboration with Global Medical, Regulatory and Compliance. Contribute to the development and review of local promotional and non-promotional materials.
- Build up a local publication plan and assure its execution e.g. by contributing to scientific articles, abstracts, publications and outcomes-based presentations to exemplify the services and products of the company.
- Position Germany as a partner for Global and EU Medical Affairs, medical vendors, medical writers and freelancers in development and review of scientific material. Provide guidance and local input to ensure clinical relevance, accuracy and impact
- Build strong relationships with internal colleagues (e.g. R&D, Commercial, Market Access, Marketing and Sales) by providing medical expertise and support as needed.
- Communicate effectively to ensure workflows are smooth and opportunities are taken
- Active contributor to the regular meetings of the D-A-CH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) Medical Affairs Department
Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, PhD) in a relevant scientific field.
- At least 5 years’ experience in medical affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, including field experience.
- Preferred experience in endocrinology, pediatric endocrinology, or rare diseases.
- Fluent in German (both written and spoken); Strong English language skills. Proficiency in French and/or Italian is a plus.
