Future with tradition - shaping science: The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) offers a wide

range of subjects in the humanities, social, natural and m edical sciences. The oldest and largest university in
Saxony-Anhalt was founded in Wittenberg in 1502. Today it has 340 professors and 20,000 students. Research

focuses on material and life sciences as well as social and cultural research topics.

The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Faculty of Natural Sciences III, Institute for Geosciences

and Geography, is seeking a part-time (50%)

Research Associate (m/f/d)

for a fixed term of three years at the next possible date.

Remuneration will be determined based on job duties and responsibilities and will be aligned with the fulfill-

ment of listed personal requirements, up to pay grade 13 under the TV-L (Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen

Dienst der Länder – 'German Public Service Pay Agreement for the Federal States').

Job Responsibilities:

  • Research on viscous deformation of quartz-feldspathic rocks to better understand tectonic exhumation pro-

cesses

  • Structural geological and microstructural analysis of Alpine mylonitic shear zones
  • Lab work, especially light-optical and electron microscopy techniques as well as digital image analysis, in

order to develop microphysical models of deformation processes

  • Field work and geological mapping, if necessary, in high alpine mountain regions
  • Presentation of research results on national/international conferences, writing of scientific publications
  • Teaching assistance in structural geology and tectonics in the study programs of the Institute for Geosciences

and Geography

The opportunity to gain your own academic qualification as part of a doctorate is given.

Requirements:

  • Completed scientific university degree (diploma or MSc) in geosciences or related fields
  • Good knowledge in tectonics, structural geology and microstructural analysis
  • Experiences in light-optical and electron microscopy techniques and other methods of microstructural anal-

ysis are beneficial

  • Basic knowledge about the geology of the Alps
  • Independent and structured way of working and interest to engage in new techniques
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary manner, ability to cooperate and work in a team
  • Very good knowledge of English and good knowledge of German
  • Driving licence (class B in Germany) and willingness to drive also during excursions
