The Max von Pettenkofer Institute (MvPI) of LMU Munich was founded in
1879 and is a leading center for infection research in Germany. The
Department/Chair of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Epidemiology
(Chairperson: Prof. Dr. Sebastian Suerbaum) hosts six research groups
devoted to diverse topics in infection research. In the institute's main building
in downtown Munich (near Sendlinger Tor), we work on a broad spectrum of
infection biology and translational research topics. The Department also
comprises an accredited clinical microbiology laboratory and is involved in
teaching for undergraduate students and graduate researchers.
The MvPI is an integral part of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München
